"What Makes a Real Man?"

"What makes a real man?"

This was the question I posted in my Advisory Class' private group.

It was after reading blogs pertaining to manhood that made me interested in asking the question to my students. My idea is to get a little perspective from them, especially most of them are you ladies, and so I posted...

I know most of you are young ladies, but in an young woman's perspective, how would you answer this question below...

"What makes a real man?"

Needs not to be technical...
I would appreciate your answer... thanks! :)

And here are their response.

"I'll make my answer simple sir. A real man is someone who knows how to treasure a woman. Not in a way na maibbigay lahat ng gsto (like material things) but a man who is capable of gaining Respect, Trust and Love for his woman. ♥ and xempre ung God-fearing. :D " ~ Camille

"A real man is someone who respects a woman, he will not make you feel left out and he always comfort and understands you in any kind of situations. He will not get tired on understanding your immaturity, and he will made you feel that you are special and you are one of a kind. Lastly, The one who will not search for other woman. A real man is contented for what he has. :)" ~ Zhara

"Real men PRAY." ~ Shannon

"Real men wouldn't ask the woman they love to change...
Real men waits but acts on the right time...
Real men can make a woman laugh...
Real men try to understand not pretend...
Real men knows their limits and when to stop...
Real men are idiots but sweet...
Real men makes mistakes but apologize afterwards...
And most importantly, real men knows they can hurt the woman they love but tries not to..." ~ Alyssa

"A real man is TRUE TO HIS WORDS." ~ Venus

"real men are not fake :3
real men knows discipline .." ~ Jovelyn

"real men?knows right time, and right place in every action, knows how to treasure and respect.. " ~ Catherine

"What makes a real man? A real man is a man who doesn't fight back not because he is scared or a coward but because he knows that fighting doesn't make him strong and look manly. WAG NA NGA ENGLISH. LOL. Basta yung tipong pag hinamon ng suntukan di pumapatol pero pag hinamon harapin ang isang responsibilidad go sya."
~ Valerie

MY TAKE ON THIS...

We could come up with words to answer the question, but for me, I would go back to the basics. To go back to the basic means to go back to the real intention of God in creating MAN.

A MAN LEADS. Man was specifically wired by God to lead(Gen. 1:26). In the book of Genesis it was Adam who was tasked by God to rule over His creation. Be it in the family, in the relationship, or even in every structure of this world... man is made by God to lead. Following God's design, A REAL MAN LEADS.

A MAN PROTECTS. Physiologically speaking men are stronger that women. God created men physically superior than women for a purpose and that is to protect them. Adam's failure to protect Eve led to the fall (Gen. 3). So in every relationship, more specifically with the opposite sex, men are bestowed the responsibility to protect the women. Therefore, A REAL MAN PROTECTS.

A MAN PROVIDES. Fathers are suppose to be the providers of the family. Primarily,  it is with their toil that family survives. After the fall it was Adam's task to provide Eve and their family. So by design A REAL MAN PROVIDES for his family.

This for me is a REAL MAN... A MAN WHO LEADS, PROTECTS, and PROVIDES.

Basic Mountaineering Course Series

Since I enjoy climbing, I thought of educating my self and others in this hobby. I planned attending a basic mountaineering course offered by organizations but schedule wise, it's not possible as of the moment. I'm still hopeful though, that in the future I'll be more educated and certified by a group. But until then I have got this lecture that I wish to share to other who also are into climbing. This is taken from the UP Mountaineering Society which produced the well known Filipino mountaineer Romy Garduce. I'll be posting it by parts. Here is Part I.

Part 1: Climb Preparation
In preparing for a climb, several factors have to be taken into consideration by the prospective climber. No backpacker-beginner or expert-can ignore physical fitness in preparing for a climb. A certain level of fitness is required for a pleasant and safe climb. In order to enjoy the scenery and the company of fellow backpackers, one must be fit to keep up with them. The lack of preparations has made a lot of potentially great climbs in total disaster.

Physical Fitness
To  help you in preparing for a climb, we have list down some guidelines:

  • All participants of a climb must be physically fit. The best fitness program involves continuous endurance training through aerobic sports such as running, swimming, cycling, and walking.
  • Weight training is the perfect supplement to a aerobic program. This will help you develop your muscular strength and endurance.
  • Any participant in a climb who gets sick before the climb should forego his participation. A sick climber becomes a liability to the group.
  • An old adage says that the best exercise for mountaineering is mountaineering. The hardiest hikers and climbers are those who spend a great deal of their time hiking, backpacking, and climbing.
  • Being fit gives you the confidence to tackle climbs, such that psyching up come almost naturally.

"ISKO the WONDER BOY!"

“Isko" is a Filipino nick name for Francisco..

A boy named Isko wasvery sad in his class..

The teacher asked, "Isko what is your problem?"

Isko answered, "I'm too smart for the first-grade.My sister is in the third grade and I'm smarter than she is. I think I should be in the third-grade too!"

The teacher had enough. She took Isko to the principal's office.

While Isko waited in the outer office, the teacher explained to the principal what the situation was.

The principal told the teacher he would give the boy a test and if he failed to answer any of the questions he was to go back to the first-grade and behave.

She agreed. Isko was brought in and the conditions were explained to him and he agreed to take the test.

Principal: "What is 3 x 3 ?"

Isko: "9".

Principal: "What is 6 x 6 ?"

Isko: "36"

And so it went with every question the principal thought a third-grade should know.

The principal looks at the teacher and tells her, "I think Isko can go to the third-grade. "

Teacher says to the principal, " I have some of my own questions. Can I ask him"

The principal and Isko both agreed.

Teacher asks, "What does a cow have four of and that I have only two of?

Isko: After a moment, " Legs."

Teacher: "What is in your pants that you have but I do not have?"

Isko: " Pockets "

Teacher: " What starts with a C and ends with a T, is hairy, oval, delicious and contains thin whitish liquid?

Isko: Coconut

Teacher: What goes in hard and pink then comes out soft and sticky?

The principal's eyes open really wide and before he could stop the answer, Isko was taking charge.

Isko: Bubblegum

Teacher: What does a man do standing up, a woman does sitting down and a dog does on three legs?

The principal's eyes open really wide and before he could stop the answer...

Isko: Shake hands

Teacher: Now I will ask some" Who am I " sort of questions, Okay?

Isko: Yep. Teacher: You stick your poles inside me. You tie me down to get me up. I get wet before you do.

Isko: Tent

Teacher: A finger goes in me. You fiddle with me when you're bored. The best man always has me first..

The principal was looking restless, a bit tense and took one large Jack Daniel peg.

Isko: Wedding Ring

Teacher: I come in many sizes. When I'm not well, I drip. When you blow me, you feel good.

Isko: Nose

Teacher: I have a stiff shaft. My tip penetrates. I come with a quiver.

Isko: Arrow

Teacher: What word starts with a ' F ' and ends in ' K ' that means lot of heat and excitement?

Isko: Firetruck

Teacher: What starts with a ' F ' and ends in 'K ' and if you don't get it, you have to use your hand.

Isko: Fork

Teacher: What is it that all men have one. It's longer on some men, than others, the pope doesn't use his and a man gives it to his wife after they're married ?

Isko: SURNAME

Teacher: What part of the man has no bone but has muscles, has lots of veins, like pumping, and is responsible for making love ?

Isko: HEART

The principal breathed a sigh of relief and said to the Teacher:

"Send this Boy to Harvard University !! I even got the last ten questions wrong myself! "Shame on me.

Loving the Mountains

I’ve always wanted to be a mountaineer.

Explore the forest, trek the woods, swim the rivers, dive into the sea, have massage from the water from the falls, listen to the birds singing, hear the sound of the insects, and marvel at GOD’S creation at the summit after a tiring climb!

Commune with Mother Nature.

It took me some time. But I’m taking it seriously more now. I’m aiming to climb more. Farther and higher will I go. I now have some people who shares the same passion and because of that I’m doubly excited!

Masaya ang experiences. Madaming nakikilalang mga tao. Nakakapagod pero narrating ang tuktok ng bundok! Walang katumbas na saya at ligaya! Pramis!

It makes me appreciate more God’s creation and also reminds me of His mandate to us to be good stewards of His Creation (Genesis 1:28-29).

Tara akyat tayo! :D

Day 7

It’s the last day! I am excited!

I went to Victory Dasma at around 2:30 and arrived at around 3 pm I think. I spent some time chatting with people, and rested while I wait for the start of the prayer meeting.

Prayer meeting was awesome! Praise and worship was really engaging! Pastor Benjie delivered the message.

And finally! It’s eating time! After 7 days! I’m about to eat something other than soup and juice! I thank God for sustaining me! I ate nido soup, goto, and some fruits. I also ate pandesal and puto. Arjay gave us some spaghetti, all are tikim lang naman, kasi ayoko mabigla!

Our season of prayer and fasting really thought me something and I am really thankful to God for His unending love, for His abounding grace, and unending mercy. I just wanna trust Him all throughout, although it seems like it’s hard to understand and uncertain, just heed Him. For sure His plan is always for the good of us.

Makakain na ko ng gusto ko! Mc Donalds's cheese burger, fries, coke float! Spaghetti, chicken! Chic-boy! Inasal! Pizza! pansit! chocolates sa ref namin! Ice cream! and many more! :D

Day 5 and 6

Day 5

I feel so sleepy all day. My rhinitis struck. So I was drained. I played the beat box and my nose is runny. Ate Susan delivered the Word. I’m really sleepy, I should sleep now.

Day 6
No class for today. I was able to rest. I prepared my preaching in the morning. I called my friend and just asked for some update. I thank God for the revelations He gave me. As I continue to pray and fast, God is really impressing me something and I am continually praying for it.

My message is based on what is written in Galatians 5:25, “Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.” To keep in step means to keep walking, keep in pace, remain in Him, and stay with Him. Keep in step with the Spirit, has its benefit. In John chapter 15:5, it says, If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; and in verse 7, If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.

But how do we keep in step with the Holy Spirit? According to Steve Hixon in his article Keep in Step with the Spirit, “Keeping in step, or walking by the spirit, implies a conscious dependence upon God. Since the Spirit is to be our source of power, life, joy, and freedom, then keeping in step means staying in touch with His presence. Whatever keeps us in touch with our need for Him, combined with a heart that is willing to follow Christ, keeps us in step with Him. Therefore, prayer, Bible reading, honest relationships, communion, worship, taking spiritual risks, authentic ministry -- anything that surfaces our weakness and causes us to cry out for His strength -- keeps us in step with the Spirit. And then the results of that kind of lifestyle become evident as the fruit of the Spirit -- recognizable as qualities that only God can produce.”

This kind of lifestyle produces the fruit of the Holy Spirit. We become filled with Holy Spirit as we continue to keep in step with the Spirit. And as we keep in step we become more Christ-like.

And so as a conclusion, my one point message is, “Keeping in step with the Spirit transforms us to be more like Christ.”
The prayer meeting was really amazing! Not because I preached, but the Holy Spirit really moved! We felt during our praise and worship time and during the prayer time! It was really great! Really hard to describe!
